The Garden

from Steadfast by Gaffer Project

/

about

Track 7 of 11
The Garden begins as me relating to Peter's prospective in the garden of Gethsemane but then changes to Jesus' prospective. The chorus deals with some of my own personal struggles.

lyrics

I fail to see you pouring your heart out, In light of my ignorant slumber party.
I was anything but comforting in gethsemane, as you showed your humanity.
It is here on this dark hillside, fear and sweat next till it bleeds.
By this sacrifice, no man gets to the father but by me.

I’m the man that visits his own wake, who wakes the dead.
Ear pressed to his chest, go where the father has lead.
It’s taken this terrible fate for me to understand now,
Why it is sons will do anything to make their fathers proud.

Pulling my heart up by the ventricles and the veins
It’s hard to see your face in the blood, but I see where it stained
The curtain cracks with thunder in your resonance
No longer needing a shroud to hide us from your presence
Romance is based on, romance is based of
Water mixed with blood, grace mixed with love

Sense my birth there’s been a plan, no mere happenstance
This dying will be a pain that which spares me no expense
How is this? I’ve gone from a son I’m whom you’re well pleased
To a thief left for dead, asking why you’ve forsaken me?

I have to play this game but first I must anti up
It is the people I’ve loved that will hold me to drink this cup
This is the price of what separates us to be abolished.
And with that last breath will be a grown of “It is finished”

Pulling my heart up by the ventricles and the veins
It’s hard to see your face in the blood, but I see where it stained
The curtain cracks with thunder in your resonance
No longer needing a shroud to hide us from your presence
Romance is based on, romance is based of
Water mixed with blood, grace mixed with love
